US building more hotels than any other country

An article in Boutique Hotelier highlights hotel construction trends in Q2 2024.

The US is the world’s leading country in hotel construction, according to Lodging Econometrics’ (LE’s) Global Construction Pipeline Trend Report.

US hotel construction in the second quarter of 2024 accounted for nearly two-fifths (39%) of global figures.

This leading position is owed to 6,905 projects with a combined 713,151 rooms, record figures for the US.

China is close behind in second place, with 25% of global production coming from the country’s 3,815 projects comprising nearly 700,000 rooms.

India, Canada and Saudi Arabia round out the top five for hotel construction, all three of which boast record figures despite being distantly behind the figures of the US and China.

The cities with the largest production pipelines include Dallas, TX, with 189 projects (22,392 rooms) and Atlanta, GA with 159 projects (18,522 rooms).
