Vinay Patel is the President and CEO of Fairbrook Hotels. Vinay is responsible for developing and implementing the vision and strategy for Fairbrook Hotels. Additionally, he heads the strategic planning, acquisitions, and sales of hotel assets.
Vinay Patel was born of Indian descent in Malawi, Africa. At the age of eight, he and his family migrated to the United States, where he assisted in housekeeping to the front desk at the family motel. Upon graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Business Administration, he continued the family business at a small 15-room motel in Richmond, Virginia. Here he learned the values of hard work and perseverance. He did everything from cleaning, maintenance, running the front desk, and marketing at this small motel.
From here, Vinay bought a piece of property in Stafford, Virginia, where no one would give them a franchise because of the lack of experience in a larger franchised hotel. After being turned down by many large hotel franchise companies, Carlson Hotels gave them a chance to build the first Country Inn and Suites in Virginia. Presently, the company owns and operates 11 hotels consisting of Hilton Brand, Marriott Brand, Holiday Inn brand, Radisson, Choice Hotels, and Wyndham Hotels brands.
Along the way, Vinay has received many awards for his accomplishments. He was awarded “The Rising Pineapple Award” by the Virginia Hospitality and Tourism Association and the 'Future Hotelier of the Year' award by the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and also won the Presidential Award by Carlson Companies for the Country Inn and Suites for achieving the highest level of operational excellence.
Vinay believes in giving back to the hotel business by being very active in the industry. Vinay previously served as the Chair for the Asian American Hotels Owners Association, and locally, he also serves as a Board Director for the Virginia Restaurant Lodging and Tourism Association, and President of the Herndon Hospitality Association. In the past, he served on the US Tavel and Advisory Board and the American Hotel and Lodging Association Board. Vinay believes the best way to grow is to give back to the community.
