Tell Your State Represenative to Support SB280!

On Thursday, February 1, the Florida Senate passed SB 280 that would hold platforms more accountable and ensure that all short-term rentals obtain a license and pay their fair share of taxes. We are now asking the Florida House of Representatives to amend HB 1537 to mirror SB 280. Although HB 1537 would create a registry and licensing process for short-term rentals, the additional transparency language would require short-term rental agencies to provide quarterly reports to the state. This would be a valuable tool to ensure compliance with existing law and the collection of all appropriate taxes.
Let your Representative know that this is important for you and your business. Remind them about the Florida TaxWatch study that was released in January. It reviews the impact unlicensed vacation rentals are having in the State and how a substantial proportion of Florida’s temporary public lodging units, as of 2022, were vacation rentals operating without proper licensing and the challenges, most notably tax evasion and unfair competitive environment for licensed lodging establishments, it causes.
