Recently, DEI Advisors Founder David Kong interviewed AAHOA Vice Chairman and Incoming Chairman Miraj Patel

Patel, president of Wayside Investment Group, shared highlights of his career, emphasizing lessons from his parents' hard work and dedication in the lodging industry.

He discussed his decision to pursue hotel management despite initial skepticism. Patel stressed the importance of commitment, positivity, and overcoming challenges, citing his belief in trying new approaches and learning from setbacks.

"Age wasn't my disadvantage; it was my biggest advantage. That's the perspective I kept in my mind. The same goes for women hoteliers under my chairmanship,” Miraj said. “There are going to be naysayers out there, but look at ways to take that negative self-talk and say how do I prove myself, and how do I ensure that I keep that as a motivational factor."

He also discussed his personal motto of building his own dreams and the value of energy and passion in leadership and public speaking. Patel emphasized the importance of networking and advising to make genuine connections and leave a lasting impression.
