San Diego Committee Advances $25 Minimum Wage Proposal for Hotels

This week, the City of San Diego Select Committee on Cost of Living voted 3-0 to advance a proposal that would mandate a $25 per hour minimum wage for hotels, event centers, and janitorial services. The decision directs the City Attorney to draft an ordinance, commission an economic impact study, and set a follow-up in June 2025.

South Pacific Regional Director Nilesh (Neil) Bhakta and other San Diego hoteliers were among those who testified against the proposal, warning of its potential negative impact on the hospitality industry, tourism, and the city’s already struggling revenues. Despite these concerns, the committee moved forward. AAHOA will continue to advocate for policies that support hotel owners and small businesses while ensuring the long-term economic health of the industry.
