Senator Elizabeth Warren Calls on FTC to 'Closely Scrutinize' Choice-Wyndham Merger

Senator Elizabeth Warren recently raised concerns with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding Choice Hotels International's bid to acquire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, labeling it a potential "hostile takeover."

Warren emphasized worries about increased prices for consumers, reduced competition, and potential harm to franchisees. The FTC is already investigating antitrust concerns sparked by Choice Hotels' public bids. Warren highlighted the potential dominance of the combined entity in the hotel market, especially in the economy and midscale segments.

AAHOA, represented by its President and CEO Laura Lee Blake, shares these concerns, fearing the merger could lead to a monopoly and negatively impact franchisees. In a December survey, nearly 80% of Choice and Wyndham franchisees from AAHOA expressed worries about the merger's potential negative effects on their businesses.
